Illustrator needs a efficient way to convert spot colors to process using a specified library (Pantone)
Ink Manager exists in both Indesign and Acrobat.
A convert colors or ink manager is desperately needed in Illustrator.

ummm...select the swatches you want to convert then in the palette menu choose "swatch options". When the color dialog box appears change "spot color" to "process color" in the appropriate dialog box. Perhaps there's more to your feature request that you're not divulging?

I suspect that Tom got his request backwards and is really asking for an efficent way to mass convert process colors to spot colors within a specified library.

It would be nice, especially if it could go from the wider gamut of RGB to, say, Pantone solid. Look on the main U2U forums and you'll see a lot of people looking for something similar.

An all around ink manager should have been included a long, long, time ago. One that includes options for setting lpi, type of ink (opaque, technical), etc.

Absolutely!
When will Adobe wake up to the fact that there are more 6/c and 8/c
presses running spot color inks with cmyk than just cmyk presses.

The ability to mix 2 spot colors as ink manager can in Indesign would be
"priceless" for producing packaging art, compared to the same
workarounds I have been using since ILL 6
